Shopping List for Snacks, Extra Meals

No matter how much food you make, people are going to want to scrounge for food themselves. Surplus time and the feeling of freedom on vacation will make people want to snack.

Memorial Day weekend I am going away with 12 friends. People are arriving at different times Friday after work, so they are on their own for dinner. I have planned meals for Saturday light brunch and dinner; Sunday midday bbq and dinner; and Monday brunch. This leaves midday meals/snacks Saturday and Monday and late night meals/snacks Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Don’t forget about fourth meal.

Here is the shopping list for non-meal food, keeping in mind there will also be leftovers and things other people bring. (This was ordered ahead for delivery.)

For sandwiches
6 oz sliced ham
6 oz sliced turkey
8 oz sliced American cheese
7 oz sliced cheddar cheese
8 oz cream cheese
16 oz peanut butter
12 oz jar jelly
8 Avocados (also for guacamole)
1 loaf multi-grain bread
1 loaf white bread
1 package (6) English muffins

4 lb oranges
2 bunches bananas
16 oz strawberries

Snacks, dips, etc.
2 16 oz jars salsa, different styles
8 Avocados (also for sandwiches)

16 oz can vegetarian refried beans
2 18 oz bags tortilla chips
16 oz hummus
18 oz bag pita chips
16 oz bag baby carrots

36 oz Greek yogurt

2 dozen eggs
1/2 head cauliflower
1 head broccoli
8 hot dogs

All of this, plus the ingredients for the meals, mixers and coffee comes to $259. That includes buying free range eggs, grass-fed ground beef, natural sandwich meat and a medley of other natural/organic items. That’s $20/person for three days.
